SETsquared Annual Investment Showcase - Invest 2021

1 December 2021 @SETsquared Exeter (UEEZ Project)

The annual Investment Showcase event

The annual Investment Showcase event has been a high-point in the SETsquared Partnership calendar for approaching 20 years.

In 2020, the covid pandemic meant that, for the first time ever, the showcase was delivered entirely on line and the same was true for 2021. But despite the change in format the quality of the event has remained high and this year the online audience were able see pitches from the best 16 businesses selected from across the 6 partner Universities of the SETsquared Partnership.

In order to make the most of the event, the SETsquared Exeter Business Acceleration team invited members of the SW Investment Community to join them, along with colleagues from the University of Exeter and Accelerator members, to watch the pitches live in the Hive Accelerator space at Exeter Science Park Centre.

“It was great to recapture some of the benefits which came from in-person attendance at the previous Investment Showcase events” said Head of Business Support, Joe Pearce. “Although it was obviously on a smaller scale, it was great to see some of the SW’s angels and investors watching the pitches, including 3 from SETsquared Exeter, and having the conversations which just don’t happen on line”

The event marks the first in what will be regular events that invite Regional Investors who are seeking investment to meet with members of the SETsquared Business Accelerator team, with the next scheduled for April 2022.

The SETsquared Exeter Business Accelerator is a core feature of the ERDF funded University of Exeter Enterprise Zone project, which aims to identify and support high-growth start ups in Devon, including helping them to secure investment to support their growth ambitions.

“Events such as this are crucial in helping to build the connections between businesses and investors” said Andrew Southall, Angel Investor and SETsquared Exeter Entrepreneur in Residence. “SETsquared are supporting a pipeline of businesses, including spin-outs from the University, that will need private investment and having a local community of investors will help to keep those businesses based in the region”
