Using traditional building techniques combined with modern materials and design features, physics student Duncan Lyster is creating lightweight, high-performance wooden surfboards.
The design incorporates the latest in carbon fibre, fibreglass, semi-permeable membrane and fin-placement technologies to create what has not been made before: an extremely light, hollow wooden surfboard that surfs as well as its polyester counterparts.
Duncan applied for a Market Validation Grant via SETsquared Exeter's Think:Try:Do Student Startup Programme in order to build two prototypes which he can take to potential customers to get feedback on look, feel and performance.
Duncan is also developing a website and social media pages, through which he can start building a community and professional company presence.
