Exeter-based Luminous Show Technology, who are members of SETsquared Exeter have responded to Covid-19 with a complete refocus for their production lines.
With the entertainment industry currently on hold due to lockdown measures, Luminous, who specialise in the design and manufacture of innovative hardware for the entertainment industry including flame throwers and pyrotechnic equipment were suddenly faced with a rapid decrease in business. However, recognising the desperate nationwide shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) CEO, Mike Badley decided to focus on manufacturing a very different product.
Mike explained: “Luminous has obviously seen a sharp decline in potential jobs due to almost all live events shutting down globally. While our core manufacturing business is still operational, we had capacity to add certain items of PPE to our production schedule. We were able to rapidly produce low cost face shields and hand cleaner to meet all government regulations, including passing the face shields through external testing via SATRA. To date we have supplied customers large and small across the country, and are currently producing thousands of face shields and hundreds of litres of hand sanitiser per week.”
He continued: “Our products have been used by The Devon Air Ambulance, The Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, Bristol Royal Infirmary, Royal British Legion care homes and have been bought personally by many frontline workers. We are very keen to keep suppling, especially locally, so please get in touch if we may be able to help.”
Joe Pearce, Head of SETsquared Exeter said: “Times are immensely tough for small businesses right now. We are incredibly proud of Mike and the Luminous team for their response to the epidemic’s critical PPE shortage. Their ability to rapidly adapt their business and produce low-cost, high specification equipment is a testament to their strength and ingenuity.”
