SETsquared Business Incubation and Acceleration team
We can work with you to develop a business model that clearly defines how your business will make money and who are your ideal clients. The team can help with business model design and development, market validation activity plus training and workshops.
Incubation and Acceleration Manager
SETsquared members can benefit from bespoke packages of support led by our Incubation and Acceleration Manager. This can help you address day to day issues as well as Business Review Panels made up of experienced business people to add some strategic direction.
Access to professional services
SETsquared Exeter members can benefit from validated introductions to legal, accounting and HR professionals. We will introduce you to more than one firm so you decide which one is the best fit for your business.
We offer our members the opportunity to partner with experienced and seasoned professionals in a mentor capacity. Mentors provide external expertise and a sounding board for business critical decisions.
Entrepreneurs in Residence (EiRs)
Access business advice and coaching from our experienced Entrepreneurs in Residence (EiRs). They will help you avoid common start up pitfalls and can provide strategic advice and direction tailored to the needs of your fledgling business.
SETsquared Scale-Up Programme

Just for students
Student Start up Team
The Student Start Ups team work with Students and graduates from any discipline and level, from undergraduates, to PhD students, to graduates. We support and advise you at whatever stage you are with your idea; from developing your concept to validating your market or registering you company to attracting investors.
There are two types of Student Startup Grants available from the team; 1) Market Validation Grant (up to £500); 2) Start Up Grant (up to £3500). Grant funding is dependent on your engagement with the Student Start Up Team and programme. We want to get to know you and your start up idea and to work with you to develop a viable value proposition and business model before awarding
Just for University Researchers
ICURe provides entrepreneurial training and funding for teams consisting of a Principal Investigator, early career researcher and a business advisor to validate your business proposition.
Researcher to Innovator
Researcher to Innovator is a residential training programme designed to help you develop entrepreneurial competencies and skills to help you commercialise your research and launch spin out projects.
University internal funding
A grant / loan of up to £15,000 for start-up expenses may be applied for via the University’s Internal Funding Commercialisation Fund (internal access only).
Research Commercialisation Managers
Once you have demonstrated there is sufficient demand for your idea (market validation) your Research Commercialisation Manager will work with you to develop a business plan, incorporate the company and negotiate the necessary legal documentation.
